The thing with life is that you sometimes ask yourself what if, how could I, or I wonder…
We’ve asked ourselves this too before. What would it be like? Is it possible?
We’ve been asked before, sometimes jokingly, sometimes seriously. Well. Here it is. What we’ve all been poking fun at each other for, for quite some time.
The Appalachian 1000.
1000+ miles of backroads in 72 hours or less.
Do you have what it takes?
The Appalachian 1000 Overland Endurance Rally, hosted by Backroads of Appalachia and the Appalachian Overland Triangle, is an exciting event scheduled for July 9-12, 2026. It features various categories for entry, including SUVs, trucks, street-legal side-by-sides, and motorcycles of different engine sizes, among other fun classes.
The rally’s mission is to raise funds for charity while showcasing the beautiful and challenging terrains of Appalachia. Participants can expect a mix of pavement, gravel, dirt, mud, and rocky surfaces, requiring experienced drivers and well-equipped vehicles to navigate.
Beginning in Taylor County, West Virginia and concluding in Owsley County, KY; participants will experience the best roads and scenery Appalachia has to offer. Participants will have 72 hours once they depart the start line to complete their journey. The event allows for multiple drivers or spotters per vehicle, making it a team-friendly endeavor. We encourage chase vehicles and support staff for each team that enters. Rally your friends and let’s click off some miles!
To enter the rally, once your application is approved, there’s a suggested donation of $500 per vehicle. A portion of this entry fee will go towards a charity within the Appalachian region. Class winners will also receive a payout.
If you’re up for an exhilarating challenge and want to contribute to a good cause, this event is not to be missed!
