If you ever needed an app to find local events, restaurants, and ATV/motorcycle trails all in one place…there’s about to be one available in your phone’s App Store.

A nonprofit 501c3 organization devoted to promoting the $322 billion industry of motorsports in Appalachia, will be releasing an app called Backroads of Appalachia on Friday, June 10.

Backroads of Appalachia’s mission is to promote economic development and tourism through ATVs, off-road and on-road motorcycles, and supercars, according to Backroads of Appalachia’s Director Erik Hubbard.

Backroads of Appalachia covers 33 counties in Eastern Kentucky (over 250 communities, towns, and cities), three counties in southern West Virginia, and two counties in southwest Virginia.

This includes Williamsburg, Corbin, London, and beyond.

The free mobile app will be available for iPhone and Android and will be handy for those motorsport riders who want to explore the region.

”Wherever they’re from, they can hit the start button on the map and build an itinerary in the app (where they’re driving or riding, where they’re staying, and where they’re eating) so they all can know exactly where they’re going next as a group,” Hubbard said.

The app was developed and funded in partnership with the USDA of Rural Development. Red Pixel Studio out of Owensboro, Kentucky, also designed the app.

“We plan on developing more trails and keeping the Motorsport enthusiasts in Central Appalachia,” added Hubbard.

In the future, Hubbard said he would like to expand the app to cover more mom and pop businesses, more trails, and things to see in Appalachia.
