Black Dog Ranch was originally a working farm owned by Joseph T. Bailey and his wife Ruth. During the early seventies Joe, an avid hunter, acquired Snoopy, a small black and white feist that would prove to be the first of the “black dogs”. A subsequent litter produced five black pups, two of which were sold to a fellow hunter while the remaining three pups and their mother remained on the farm. The three remaining pups were named Bailey, Kate, and Ted.
Joe and Ruth both passed at the beginning of the new millennium, and the last of the “black dogs”, Kate, passed shortly there after. It seemed only fitting that "Black Dog Ranch" would serve as the new moniker for the farm where Joe and Ruth had spent nearly sixty years of their life, over 25 of which were accompanied by one or more of the well-loved line of "black dogs."

Our lodging is located in Mullens WV, which is easily accessible from Interstates 64 and 77 near Beckley. The Coalfield Expressway offers beautiful views during the 15 minute drive to Mullens. Our units are located inside a remodeled Ford garage and most are two stories high! Mullens is an ATV friendly town with multiple restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations for your convenience. The Pinnacle Creek trailhead is approximately 1.2 miles away. The Pinnacle Creek Trail will connect you to the Warrior, Indian Ridge and Pocahontas trails, thereby providing you with over 400 miles to explore! Our property offers ample parking for your trucks and trailers. We also offer a fenced in area for you to park your ATV’s. There is a commons area inside with a billiard table, air hockey and board games for your enjoyment. Gas grills, fire pits and outdoor seating are also available. The back of the property borders the Guyandotte river which is stocked by the state with trout every two weeks! Perhaps you will want to bring your fishing pole or your kayak. You will love our friendly town and our hospitality. Come sit by the creek and enjoy yourself. You can ride the new Devil Anse Trail to my great-great grandfather’s grave site. You will love this trail and the historic adventure. You can visit the Hatfield McCoy Moonshine Distillery which is just minutes from our cabins. Pets are welcome if trained. We sell trail passes at any time. All linens and towels are provided as well as cable TV, fire pits, grills, heating and air conditioning. 24 hour Police protection.
