G&E was opened as a Drive-In in the 1960’s by Sister-in-Laws Gerldine Buhl and Emeline Alder. In that day Drive-Ins were the thing and G&E was the place to be! Always known for those great Burgers!
Here at G&E we’ve come a long way over the years. We’ve done several remodels and made several changes to our offering but one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to serving quality food prepared in a traditional way!

Admission to the Science Center and the hands-on Exhibit Hall is free! The Green Bank Science Center is the starting point for your guided tour of the Green Bank Observatory site. Your personal guide will introduce you to the fascinating world of radio astronomy and feature science demonstrations and a short film about the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT). Your tour continues with a bus excursion through our gates into the RFI-restricted Zone for an up-close look at our telescopes, from the pioneering instruments of the 1950s to the world’s largest fully-steerable telescope, the GBT. Enjoy a bite at our Starlight cafe featuring a full-service menu – from lattes to fresh salads and burgers, you’ll find something for everyone!
Simply put, our business is food and lodging. We offer casual dining home cooked meals and a warm, friendly atmosphere. We have daily specials and homemade desserts. We have five large guest rooms above our restaurant, each with a private bathroom, for a reasonable nightly fee. Our new building was completed in November 1996. Our dining room seats 100 people comfortably, with a private room for dinner meetings and special parties. We also have a deck that overlooks the scenic Greenbrier River.
