Falls of Hills Creek

Tucked away in a narrow gorge just off the Highland Scenic Highway is a hidden treasure known as the Falls of Hills Creek Scenic Area. This popular 114 acre area contains three waterfalls – 25 feet, 45 feet, and 63 feet. The lower falls, at 63 feet is the second highest waterfall in West Virginia.

Accessibility:
The first 1700 feet of trail is a paved and has a wheelchair accessible path to the upper falls viewing platform.

Directions:
From the North and East via Interstate 79, use Exit 57 onto US Route 19 South to State Route 55. Take WV 55 through Richwood to the Falls of Hills Creek. Approximately 65 miles from Exit 57.

From South and East via Interstate 64 use Exit 169 onto US 219 North to State Route 39/55. West on WV 39/55 to Falls of Hills Creek. Approximately 42 miles from Exit 169 in Lewisburg.

Flag Rock Recreation Area is located three miles above downtown Norton on the lower slopes of High Knob. The thousand-acre park includes 25 developed acres and a variety of outdoor adventures. Please note restroom facilities in the park are open seasonally. Restrooms are open when Flag Rock Campground is open during the spring and fall months. Opening dates for the campground and restrooms are dependent on the weather.

Grandview Overlook

Grandview (New River Gorge National Park & Preserve) Glen Jean, WV Grandview provides some of the most dramatic scenery found in the park and is a popular place for hiking, picnicking, and sight seeing. Grandview is a peaceful place to relax and unwind while enjoying outstanding views of the New River. From 1400 feet above the river at Main Overlook, visitors are rewarded with one of the most outstanding views in the park. On a clear day you can see directly into the heart of New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, including seven miles of the New River and its watershed. From Main Overlook visitors can also get a glimpse of some of the gorge’s unique cultural history. From here you see an active railway and the town of Quinnimont, where the first coal was shipped out of the gorge in 1873. Don’t miss the views from Turkey Spur Overlook, and be sure to walk the woodland trails. Grandview is a great place to see the spectacular displays of Catawba rhododendrons that bloom here every spring.

Greenbo Lake State Park

Perfect your putting on the 18-hole miniature golf course in the camping area, open April-October. The hiking trails provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy the scenery of the beautiful Greenbo forest. Self-guided trails provide 33 miles of easy to difficult hiking. Tennis and basketball courts are located in the park and sports equipment may be checked out by overnight guests. Daily summer activities and year-round special events for children and adults are planned under the guidance of a trained recreation director. Greenbo Lake’s 225 acres are home to two state largemouth bass records! The lake also holds large bluegill, crappie, catfish, and trout. The marina, open April-October, offers 65 open slips and rental pontoon boats, row boats, canoes, and motor boats. A fishing pier and boat ramp for launching boats are open. A swimming pool adjacent to the lodge is for the exclusive use of lodge guests, and a community pool next to the sunning beach features a water slide and a children’s area with a rain tree (open during the summer).

Grove Campground
